NUCRAMS Update: 3/9

March 9, 2022

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

This historic season for the North Central University (NCU) women’s basketball team sadly came to an end this past weekend at the NCAA National Tournament. After winning the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship for the first time ever, the Rams were invited to the first round of the NCAA tournament with a matchup against the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire (UWEC). NCU battled with the higher ranked team for most of the 40 minutes but were unable to overcome the high first quarter point deficit. The Rams end their season at 24-5, the best record in program history, as they head into the off-season, proud of the accomplishments they made in the 2021-22 season.

SOFTBALL

The NCU softball continued in THE Spring Games tournament over spring break in Clermont, FL. The warm weather was much welcomed as well as the chance to play some competitive softball. The last two days of the tournament engaged in double-headers each day, as the tournament scheduled. The Rams dropped all four games to four different opponents. The last game, on Friday March 4th, against Elizabethtown College (EC) turned out to be an exciting matchup. NCU led 3-2 up until the seventh and final inning. The Rams notched another run at the top of the seventh, but EC came back to win the game scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh, finishing with a score of 6-4 in favor of EC.

Back in the cold air of Minneapolis, NCU will face off with NCCAA North Region opponent, Maranatha Baptist University on Friday March 18th for a double header.

BASEBALL

The NCU baseball opened up their season with a double header against Augsburg University (AU). The games were held in the U.S. Bank Stadium, providing a fun, professional, and exciting atmosphere, not to mention a warmer temperature as well. AU stole both games from the Rams, the earlier game at 9-0, and the later also at 9-0.

Hopefully waiting out the rest of winter, NCU won’t play again until the end of March as they travel to Lincoln Christian University in Illinois for a three-game weekend.
