The Northerner, is Accepting New Staff Members
North Central University’s student publication, The Northerner, is inviting students at to join their writing staff. “The Official News Organization of North Central University since 1960” is seeking journalists who will uphold the values of The Northerner such as integrity, clarity and real time relevance.
The Northerner is a student-run digital publication advised by Priscilla Koeckeritz, Adjunct Professor and managed by Hannah Grubbs, CAS Academic Administrative Assistant, The editorial staff desires to expand writing and reporting opportunities beyond the journalism program and engage students from all majors who have a passion for writing and digital content.
Joining The Northerner staff will increase your knowledge and understanding of the writing and editing process. This position will also help you to grow in communicating relevant information to a specific audience, such as NCU. Koeckeritz said, “It’s amazing to work with student leaders building what was a traditional newspaper into an online digital publication, and fully student-run organization.” The Northerner feeds information to students on campus and the local NCU and Minneapolis communities. Lead editors for 2022-23 on The Northerner include Micah Headley, a Media Communications major and Madi Olejnicak, a Communication Journalism major – both will graduate in May 2023.. Building for the future, this semester The Northerner has promoted several editors-in-training including Sierra Welch and Izzy Krebs, both Communication Journalism majors, and Clara Galley, a Media Communications major. These editors-in-training will be taking over as editors of The Northerner next fall.

The Northerner is NCU’s very own student- run newspaper. From sports to academics to Minneapolis news, we cover it all! The Northerner has seen some changes over the past years, moving from hardcopy paper to a digital source in news. We have revamped our style in hopes to reach a wider audience while upholding journalistic standards and reporting on relevant and timely topics.
