The Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis

April 11, 2022

With the Russian advance on Ukraine, many people who called Ukraine home have been forced to leave or to live under inhumane conditions. In this dark time, the world has gathered together to provide support for the people affected by this war. One of the best and easiest ways to help with this is to support one of the many humanitarian organizations working to improve the lives of people affected by the war. Some of these organizations include:

UNICEF   “UNICEF supports health, nutrition, HIV prevention, education, safe drinking water, sanitation and protection for children and families caught in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.”

United Way The United for Ukraine Fund will address both the immediate needs like transportation, accommodation, food, medicine, childcare supplies like infant formula and diapers, and hygiene kits, as well as longer-term needs of those fleeing the conflict.”

International Rescue Committee “…quickly deployed to neighboring Poland, where we are working with partners to assist arriving refugees. We are also working with partners inside Ukraine, supporting the evacuation of women and children and providing emergency aid to people who had to flee their homes.”

Save the Children “$50 can provide 10 warm, cozy blankets to children affected by conflict. $100 helps supply a month’s worth of nutritious food to a family in crisis. $175 can provide five families with emergency shelter materials.”

Nova Ukraine “Nova Ukraine is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine and raising awareness about Ukraine in the United States as well as in the rest of the world.”

While these organizations are handling very important problems in Ukraine, what can people do elsewhere? One way that you can help is by donating to some of the organizations listed above or found elsewhere. Although when taking this route there is the danger of donating to fake organizations. A good way to avoid these is to stay with larger more well-known organizations or to take a few steps and precautions as stated by Consumer News and Business Channel here. If you are lacking in knowledge of what groups are available to be donated to or what help they might provide, an extensive list of reputable charities has been compiled by CNBC here.
