New Heart - A Poem by Tessana Krueger

[new heart]

                                 I

who sees the fractured melodies?

who watches the fisherman as he waits for the tug?

who waits as the red blisters glaze over?

i’ve been told new hearts are curious specimens,

that strike with purity and extravagant tenderness.

                                 II

how will we know when the fathers come home to their children?

what is evergreen, eternal?

when my tastebuds dull, when this body expires,  the organism of my soul will still beat alive within me,

as a heart untraced with infirmity—

to be wed with a new, transformed body.
