NCURAMS Update 5/4

May 4, 2022

SOFTBALL

NCU’s softball joined in on another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) crossover tournament of a series of weekend games. However, the weather didn’t entirely cooperate. The Rams did get in one game against the University of Northwestern, losing narrowly 12-8 to the second ranked conference school. NCU, along with the rest of the teams in attendance, planned to continue the tournament the next day but the rain kept most games from happening, including the two on the Ram’s schedule. Unfortunately, those were NCU’s final games of the season and with the cancellation, the Ram’s season ended a bit sooner than expected. Playing a full schedule of 38 games, NCU finished the season with a record of 12-26 and 3-16, finishing last in the conference.

BASEBALL

The NCU baseball team had quite a tough week as they went on the road for multiple games and didn’t come back with a WIN. First, the Rams traveled to the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) for a three-game series with scores of 10-0, 24-0, and 17-10, all in favor of UWS. And second, NCU lost two games to the University of Minnesota Morris 9-1 and 17-14, although the games were more competitive. The Rams move to 6-15 on the season and 3-10 in the conference. Hanging around the middle of the pack, NCU currently sits at the six spot in the UMAC rankings with just a few games yet to come and it seems unlikely that they will secure a top four seed to see any playoff action. The Rams finish out their season with a game today, Wednesday May 4, against Northland College and a weekend series against Bethany Lutheran College beginning Friday, May 6.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Competing with a whole slew of teams and against the rainy weather, the NCU men’s and women’s track and field team journeyed to Gustavus Adolphus College for the Drake Invitational. Starting with the jumps, Isaac Weiers placed seventh in the high jump at 1.85m. In the triple jump, NCU secured both ten place spots with Kayden Sund in the men’s and Bethany Shield in the women’s with 11.51m and 9.33m respectively. Elizabeth Lofstad secured a seventh place finish in the 1500m run with a 5:06.17 time. NCU also secured both ten place spots in the 400m dash with Derek Burgin at 52.12 seconds and Serena Lanes 1:06.67 seconds. Full results of the meet can be found here. The Rams compete in their last meet of the season this Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, for the UMAC Outdoor Championship.
