A preview of North Central’s spring sports programs.
The North Central University Rams are gearing up for the spring athletic season. Some teams are just starting practices, while others, like basketball, are in the midst of their seasons.
The basketball teams have three games left in the season, but the women could advance to the postseason, depending on the performance of other teams in the conference. The men’s team holds a 5-17 record, while the women’s team maintains a record of 14-7. The last home games are on Feb. 16 against University of Wisconsin – Superior. The women play at 3 p.m. with the men’s game following at 4:45 p.m.
Spring sports are just around the corner. Fans can expect to see baseball, softball, lacrosse, and tennis in the upcoming months.
The NCU baseball season begins with the Tucson Invitation in Arizona on March 4. Their first home game is March 29 against Maranatha Baptist at 3 p.m. Last year the Rams were 6-21.
The NCU softball team will be starting their season with an away game at the University of Minnesota – Morris on March 14 at 8 a.m. The Rams season last year ended with a 6-25 record. The softball team will be welcoming a new coach, Joseph Waalk, to the team this year.
The lacrosse season begins with a game against Johnson and Wales on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. This season will consist of 13 games, with new Head Coach Ted Sperides. This is Sperides first year coaching at NCU after former head coach, Billy Frick, stepped down last spring.
The men and women’s tennis teams start their seasons with matches against Bethany Lutheran College in Fridley, Minn. The matches begin at 8:30 a.m. for the women’s team and at 9 a.m. for the men’s team on Feb. 15.More information about the NCU athletic program including game stats and upcoming schedules can be found on the NCU Rams website.
