New policy for student visitation brings changes to the dorms

On Jan. 18, 2019, North Central announced its new open dorm policy. This decision follows the survey taken by students in spring 2018. The updated times are Friday 5:00 – 10:00 p.m., Saturday 2:00 – 10:00 p.m., and Sunday 2:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Along with the student survey, residence life staff asked for feedback from the 2017-2018 RAs.
“Changed visitation hours started with student feedback, [then] was conveyed by our student body president, and the revised hours were agreed upon and rolled out by the residence life professional staff” said Resident Director (RD) of Carlson Hall, Chris Woelfle.
“So far, the response from RAs has been neutral or positive” said Woelfle. According to Woelfle, RAs have been given the task to make “rounds” or walk through their respective hall one extra time on Saturday afternoons. On-duty RAs have been required to make two rounds in their respective building once mid-way through and once near the end of open dorm hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. With the policy change, RAs are now expected to make three rounds in their building. Woelfle is unaware of any negative responses from the change in policy.
The RDs have asked their RA teams to give them feedback on the new changes.
“The extended hours, at least so far, do not seem to be causing a negative disruption for any residents” said Woelfle.
