Loss of seniors leaves Rams looking for younger players to step up
By Ross Anderson
The North Central University Women’s golf season has come to a close, and thus ends the North Central careers of two of the team’s top three scorers. Rebekah Winkel led the team in every meet but one, but seniors Amanda Roth and Abbey Erzberger were two of this season’s consistent top scorers for the Rams. They finished in the top three on the team every meet and will be a big loss going into next season. After the Rams’ very first meet of the season at the St. Scholastica Invitational where Roth recorded the team’s best score, Winkel consistently outscored her teammates for the rest of the season.
“Rebekah is a great leader and an experienced golfer,” Roth said. “I’m sure she’ll continue to be a consistent player in future seasons.”
At the UMAC Preview in Alexandria, Minnesota, Winkel finished in 32nd place amongst all teams at 56 strokes over par, and posted the Rams’ top individual score for the first time in her career. Roth and Erzberger were not far behind, coming in at +64 and +73. Being the only two seniors on the 2017 roster, Roth and Erzberger will be missed next year. Coach Siemens and the Rams will look to Junior Rebekah Winkel to continue to lead by example in the 2018 season.
