Rams offense quiet against Bethany Lutheran
North Central’s baseball team could not overcome a stagnant offense in a special doubleheader against the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on March 25.
The first game was not close, ending after seven innings and a final score of 10-2. The Rams had plenty of opportunities to score, racking up seven hits and three walks for a total of ten baserunners. But the Rams could only plate two runs. Brandon Scott and Grant Payne both hit RBI doubles for the Rams. Taylor Justice added a stolen base for the Rams.
Bryce Riege pitched 5.2 innings for the Rams, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on eleven hits, one of which was a home run. Riege struck out two batters.
The second game was a much more entertaining affair. After early scoring bursts for both teams, the game was tied 3-3 entering the ninth. The Vikings scored on a fielder’s choice, but pitcher Blazsen Ferreira was able to escape the top half of inning only allowing the single run. The Rams had a chance in the bottom half after Cory Kukkola was hit by a pitch to start the bottom half, but he was thrown out trying to advance to third on a fly out to end the game 4-3. Brandon Scott had all three of the Rams’ RBIs.
Ferreira absorbed the loss in the second game, pitching a complete game. Ferreira allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and seven walks. He racked up three strikeouts.
The Rams’ next games come in another doubleheader at the Central Dutch on April 1.
