New event puts an emphasis on athletics in a special event
In the first ever “white out” event, the men’s and women’s basketball teams took center stage. During the afternoon hours of Dec. 3, prospective and current students had the opportunity to experience a college athletics atmosphere.
The Rams took on the University of Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets. The lady Yellowjackets came in with a 2-3 record, led by Hailey Kontny, who was averaging 14.5 points per game before tip-off. Lizzy Swanson was averaging 21.6 points per game for the winless Rams.
On the men’s side, Travis Voight was the 1-3 Rams’ frontrunner, averaging 21.8 points per game. Voight also leads the team in 3-point percentage, shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The 1-4 Yellowjackets’ points leader was Rafael Montero with 17.8 points per game.
A campus visit experience like never before, prospective students had the opportunity to shoot baskets for a chance to win up to $50,000 in scholarship money. Current students took place in a raffle to win free textbooks for a semester.
The athletics department hope the first annual “white out” event was one to remember for the large crowd of fellow students and potential future Rams.
