NCU fashion watch: Becca and Matt

A look into North Central’s fashion scene

College years are ones of discovery, experiment and expression. One of the best ways to accomplish this self-discovery is through clothing.

Fashion is an art form. Often, individuals use their art to differentiate themselves from the rest. A person’s clothes are no different.

Matt and Rebecca are two unique individuals featured here based off of their originality.

Rebecca builds her style by finding rare gems, and uses her gifts and capabilities to make her own clothing. Matt gathers his moods and influences and turns them into a wearable piece of art. Creativity is not hard to find, but the creative minds of these two have set their wardrobes apart.

Class standing: Senior

Look inspired by: The 90s and music, such as Lupe Fiasco and The 1975.

Favorite pieces from this look: Sweater and combat boots.

Favorite place(s) to shop: Savers, Goodwill and Unique Thrift Store (Colombia Heights).

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to create their own style?

“If a piece catches my eye, even if it’s not something I typically wear, I purposely buy it. Find a way to make it work in your daily life.”

What is your opinion of the style on campus?

“There are a lot of people trying to look a certain way.”

What makes your style unique, to you?

“I focused more on what would I wear, what would I like, not what does everyone else want to wear. I also really like to wear things people say are fashion faux pas. Whatever is not popular, I just want to wear it, to prove that it really does not matter.”

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to create their own style?

“Don’t be afraid to put things together that you wouldn’t normally. Some of my favorite outfits come from me just throwing stuff together.”

What is your opinion of the style on campus?

“I think there’s a specific North Central look that a lot of people are trying to emulate. It’s cool to draw inspiration from. But, I think you want to try to have your own edge, your own distinction.”

What makes your style unique, to you?

“I definitely think I experiment a lot. It just is trial and error.”
