A call to action

Have you ever been to Elliot Park? Now that the weather has warmed up, the park is becoming more populated with students and community members. All of us are trying to take advantage of these sunny days before the weather unexpectedly changes. We share the fields and basketball courts with the community that surrounds our campus.

It was brought to my attention by a local of Elliot Park, Ken Lawrence, the need for our school to get more involved in the community. Since spring is right around the corner, Lawrence suggests we organize a spring clean up in the park and around the community.

I agree with Lawrence, during Jesus’ ministry on earth, he was not here to lord over people but to have a relationship with them and serve them. Everyday we have an opportunity to build relationships with the people in our neighborhood.

There have been events in the past held on campus or in the park to involve the community, but there hasn’t been consistent occasions where we reach out to the community and invite them to our home which is theirs as well.

I want to remind you that we do not have to leave the downtown Minneapolis to be in the depths of the mission field. We are surrounded by families from different countries, single moms and people who are longing to have a relationship/friendship.

I urge you to share the truth about the savior we worship to the community around us. Step out of your comfort zone on campus and sow into the lives of Elliot Park. God can you use here while you attend North Central, you are not limited in the mission field.
